Rick Lewis, DVM

Dr. Rick Lewis, our Chief of Staff, graduated from the University of Turin (Torino, Italy) in 1981. He began his career as a staff veterinarian at Lewis Veterinary Hospital (Columbia, MD) in 1982. In 1990, he became co-owner of the hospital later selling it to VCA in 1995. He worked as an independent contractor until 2000 when he purchased Academy Animal Hospital.

Dr. Lewis is very involved in the community working with local animal rescue groups. He has received awards for Best Veterinary Hospital, The Good Doctor Award, and Volunteer Veterinarian of the Year. He was previously Commander of the Homeland Security Veterinary Medical Assistance Team and is now their Veterinary Medical Officer.
